Rogue Valley Family YMCA Youth Basketball includes instructional basketball, basketball practices, and basketball games. Instructional basketball in this program emphasizes skill-building in agility, passing and catching, ball handling, and learning the game as a whole. Teams are composed of 6 to 12 players, and every player gets to play in every game.
• Schedule: 01/24/26 - 03/14/26; 1st & 2nd Grade (Boys and Girls): Saturday only, a 1-hour practice followed immediately by the game; 3rd & 4th Grade (Boys and Girls): one 1-hour practice during the weekdays and one 1-hour game on Saturdays; 5th & 6th Grade (Boys and Girls): two 1-hour weekly practices hosted around the volunteer coach’s schedule and games on Saturdays
• Price: Program Fee: $85; 2026 Rate Member: $85.00; Program Participant: $85.00; Free season for volunteer coaches.
For 1st and 2nd grade, the program focuses on the flow of the game rather than the enforcement of every rule and ignores most violations in the backcourt. At the 5th and 6th grade level, the program introduces zone defenses and allows full-court press during the second half of the game, and most violations and fouls at this level result in loss of possession to help prepare players for the next level of play. Scholarships are available to help with the cost of the program, and paid referee positions are available. Volunteer coaches receive a free season for their child.
Volunteer coaches are caring adults from the community, often with their own child in the sport, and all coaches go through a background check as well as a coaches training that emphasizes the importance of skill-building and teaching the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
