Pallen’s Martial Arts began in Oakland, California in 1968 and has been working with families since then to develop martial arts methods that focus on body and mind. Over the years, the program expanded to Kajukenbo in the 1970s, added Philippine Martial Art in the 1980s, and incorporated Tae Kwon Do in the 1990s, and it continues to expand its style. The program is described as Stayton's premiere martial arts school and provides martial arts classes to the Stayton, Greater Santiam Canyon, and Mid Willamette Valley communities.

The Stayton program is led by Sifu Chris Lemke, who is a 3rd Degree Black Belt in the Pallen’s Martial Arts system and has been a blackbelt instructor for more than 7 years. He has trained in Jiu-jitsu, Kendo, and Kung fu, and now trains and teaches within Kajukenbo and the Filipino martial arts in the Pallen’s Martial Arts system. Pallen’s Martial Arts creates a disciplined and structured environment with games and themed-based classes without compromising the integrity and tradition of martial arts, and it states that it provides a safe, comfortable, and welcoming atmosphere for all students and family members. The program states that it strongly believes martial arts can be for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or experience level, and that it stands behind a realistic and practical approach to self defense.

The mission of Pallen’s Martial Arts is to help families build good humans, with a focus on respect, confidence, discipline, focus, honor, courage, and integrity. The program states that it values high standards from students and describes Pallen students as having a reputation for overcoming challenges on the mat and at home and for building friendships based on integrity, trust, and respect. Pallen’s Martial Arts also notes that it has provided championship fighters and martial arts excellence for decades and that it continuously molds its martial arts in its own unique way.

Parents have described Sifu Chris and the program in various ways, including calling him an amazing teacher who is motivating and caring about students’ journeys in self defense. Several parents report that their children enjoy the classes, mention increased confidence, and describe good relationships and leadership. One parent notes that their son progressed from being very timid to becoming a junior black belt with the help of Chris and the Pallen’s family. Other comments describe a friendly atmosphere, a great experience for kids, and instruction that supports learning martial arts for exercise and self defense. Parents also mention that Chris works well with a wide range of ages and that their kids are learning self-regulation, fitness and health, and respect.
