About
Spruce Lake Youth Camps take place at the Youth Campus of Spruce Lake Christian Retreat Center & Camp, which hosts summer overnight camps and day camp, plus youth events throughout the year. The Youth Campus includes a Youth Activity Center named Mountain View that is dedicated as a youth ministry hub, and by the start of 2025, 16 cabins were added there to serve children and youth year-round. Spruce Lake offers a True North Adventure program as part of its ministry to guests and campers.
• Schedule: Current hours are Monday–Thursday 8 AM–5 PM, Friday 8 AM–10 PM, Saturday 8 AM–7 PM, and Sunday 8 AM–3 PM.
Spruce Lake Youth Camps are part of Spruce Lake Ministries, which is dedicated to Christian ministry and is rooted in the Anabaptist tradition, with the stated purpose in all that it does to point people toward Christ. Spruce Lake Ministries encourages persons from all walks of life to a deeper faith in God through Jesus Christ and affirms beliefs about Jesus as Creator, Savior, Lord and Sustainer, and as the complete revelation of who God is. Spruce Lake has two locations, Spruce Lake and Pinebrook, and serves over 30,000–31,000 guests and campers each year through more than 450 group events per year.
Spruce Lake is affiliated with the Mennonite Camping Association, Christian Camp Conference Association, Joni & Friends, and The Christian Overcomers, Inc. The leadership team includes Stephanie Gehman (Chief Executive Officer), Jonathan Tice (Spruce Lake Director), Richard Brewer (Pinebrook Director), Gordy Martin (Vice President of Finance and Sales), Julie Siegfried (Human Resource Director), Brian Brawley (Food Service Director), Dave Trout (Advancement), Kathy Bergey (Finance Manager), and Steve Ykema (Facilities Director). Spruce Lake also hosts youth camps, retreats for families and individuals, outdoor education programs, and custom retreats, conferences, and events for many churches, organizations, and groups each year.
Spruce Lake’s history includes an open house in May 1963 with nearly 700 people attending, followed by a dedication of the mountain sanctuary on July 4, 1963. In 2017, Spruce Lake purchased Spruce Mountain; in spring 2018, the Mountain View Youth Activity Center was dedicated; in fall 2018, Pinebrook was added to the Spruce Lake family; and by the start of 2025, 16 cabins were added to the Youth Campus.
