About
Delaware Valley Dance Academy offers dance training and dance classes that take students from their first introduction to dance through a full and varied course of dance training. Students participate in performing opportunities such as the Philadelphia Youth Dance Festival in Philadelphia. Classes place emphasis on proper body placement and line, musicality, and the joy of artistic expression, with a close working partnership between student and teacher as an important aspect of the program.
• Schedule: Classes follow a calendar that includes a first day of classes on September 8, fall break from Wednesday, November 25 to Saturday, November 28, winter break from December 21 to January 2, parent observation week from February 1–6, two spring breaks (March 26–30 and April 21–22), no classes on Memorial Day (Monday, May 31), and events such as the Nutcracker on December 4 and 5 and a spring performance on June 4 and 5. Trimester payments are due on December 1 and March 1.
The school’s mission states that it offers dance training in an encouraging and professional atmosphere, with classes structured to support both students pursuing a professional dance career and those taking class for the joys and physical benefits of dance in a warm and nurturing environment. The staff includes an enthusiastic team of professionally experienced teachers, supplemented by visiting guest teachers, and upper level students are regularly given the opportunity to study with guest teachers from the Pennsylvania Ballet and other professional dance companies in Philadelphia. The leadership team includes Artistic Director Lisa Wasserman and Office Administrator Amanda Pietanza. Delaware Valley Dance Academy students have been accepted and received scholarships to summer programs such as The School of American Ballet, The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts, American Ballet Theater, Miami City Ballet, The Rock School, Princeton Ballet School, and Boston Ballet, and graduates have been accepted and awarded scholarships to collegiate dance programs including The Ohio State University, University of Michigan, University of the Arts, SUNY Purchase, and Temple University.
