About
Danville Summer Camps offers themed options including History Camp, Math + Science Camp, Theatre Camp, Reading Readiness Camp, Reading Camp, and D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) Camp. Depending on the camp, children may reenact a famous battle, investigate ancient pictographs, employ the scientific method, conduct research, form hypotheses, design experiments, and analyze and conclude with verbal exchange. Other activities include acting, singing, dancing, set painting, costuming, make-up, designing characters, painting custom miniatures, trying real-life versions of D&D skills, building their own material to take from camp to their next game, and campaigning every day in D&D.
• Ages: 4–15 years old
• Schedule: Camps meet Monday–Friday, 9am–3pm
• Price: Each camp costs $220/week per camper (all materials provided)
History Camp explores many indigenous peoples from around the globe, the middle ages, ancient Egypt, and the Vikings. Math + Science Camp focuses each year on one area, such as Newton’s laws, water quality and aquatic biology, earth science, geology, or engineering, with age-appropriate modeling. Theatre Camp runs for two weeks of hands-on activities and ends with a live audience performance, and in 2023 the performance was Aesop’s Musical Fables. Reading Readiness Camp is only offered to emergent readers, while Reading Camp focuses on phonemic awareness, reading fluency, and writing proficiency. D&D Camp is an activity-focused day camp led by Dungeon Masters with up to ten years of D&D experience, and it is described as teaching and promoting fun and healthy approaches to tabletop gaming, with no D&D materials required.
All lessons at Danville Summer Camps are crafted by Pennsylvania Department of Education certified teachers with decades of experience, using differentiated instruction that maximizes every student’s participation. The program’s mission states that the camps inspire confidence, kindness, and academic curiosity in a joyful and innovative environment. For D&D Camp, no D&D materials are required, and campers are asked to come with a Chromebook or laptop if they are able. One parent testimonial describes these camps as a summer highlight every year and calls them the perfect combination of learning and fun.
