Little Hoopers Basketball is a fundamental coed basketball program where children work on developing a strong skill foundation. Players also take part in scrimmages to experience a non-competitive game environment.
• Ages: 5–8 years old
• Schedule: February 11–March 21, with practices on Wednesday evenings and games on Saturday mornings
Program directors have bachelor’s degrees with at least 30 credits in education, and all staff members are required to attend 24 credit hours of professional development each year. The program follows a sport-specific health and safety plan. The main focus is on participation and learning rather than competition, and teamwork, dedication, and good sportsmanship are part of the Lancaster Rec youth sports experience. Lancaster Rec, a 501(c)3 non-profit agency formed through a partnership agreement, offers this program. Its child care programs are state licensed by the PA Department of Human Services and measured by Keystone STARS, a state-supported and funded quality improvement program. The stated goal of Lancaster Rec is to provide a safe and enriching environment for children to learn and grow through play and for families to grow closer by spending quality time together.
