About

Camp Sequoia is an overnight summer camp that offers more than 75 activities for campers to choose from. The camp integrates social cognitive and frustration tolerance concepts and language into all aspects of camp life as part of a full immersion, fun, active social learning experience.

• Ages: 8–18 years old

Camp Sequoia is a supportive overnight camp for exceptional young men ages 8–18 and exceptional young women ages 9–16, focusing on the unique needs of kids with ADHD and those working on social or life development skills. It is described as an overnight summer camp for boys ages 8–17 and girls ages 9–16 to experience social skills success in a dynamic and nurturing environment. The program is designed for children and teenagers with ADHD and other similar diagnoses who do not need the level of support offered at special needs overnight camps yet need a different experience than a traditional overnight camp can offer. Camp Sequoia also offers social skill and recreational programs during the school year for Philadelphia, New York City, and Washington, DC area children and teenagers diagnosed with ADHD.

The mission of Sequoia is to help campers have a great time while developing their social cognition, including how to think in a social context and apply socially related skills. Camp Sequoia maintains a 2:5 staff-to-camper ratio, and 100% of division heads hold a college degree. The leadership team includes Director Brian Lux and Associate Director Reema, who is a Registered Nurse. Camp Sequoia is described as much more than a summer camp and as an investment in a child’s future success.

Parent and camper testimonials describe experiences at Camp Sequoia as life-changing, fun, and “awesome,” with campers making friends, learning about themselves, and being happy. Parents report that campers enjoyed being around other campers “just like him,” discovered new extracurriculars and hobbies, and participated in daily discussions about coping with ADHD and anxiety. Testimonials also describe staff as empathetic, patient, and invested, and note that end-of-session reports identified social challenges and offered concrete suggestions. An alumni camper reports learning how to live independently and interact with people at Camp Sequoia. Another parent states that the camp offers a balance of activities, accommodates individual needs, and understands boys who struggle with ADHD or social skills.
