The Open Door Youth Outreach offers a Youth Group where kids and teens play games, sing songs together, and take a deeper look at beliefs, relationships, and faith. The program also offers evening activities such as music and drama, gaming, and sports, as well as activities and events for kids and teens. Elementary aged children can attend After School Tutoring that includes tutoring in math and reading, help with homework, and story time, and participants can also take part in academic help, arts, and recreation. The program includes a street hockey league as a historical origin activity, and it runs Cross Trainers, a six-week summer day camp with music, recreation, arts and crafts, enrichment activities, daily breakfast and lunch, and weekly field trips.

The Open Door Youth Outreach is the youth outreach branch of the First United Presbyterian Church of Crafton Heights. Dave Carver, pastor at the First United Presbyterian Church in Crafton Heights, started The Open Door in 1987. The organization describes itself as grounded in principles of the Christian faith and open to all, and states that it exists to improve the lives of neighborhood youth through programming that supports strong self-identity, resiliency and behavioral competence, with purposeful community engagement through positive relationships in academic assistance, social interaction and athletics with caring adult volunteers in an environment of safety and fun. The program notes that it serves children and teens from all walks of life, has been changing lives since 1987, and uses the phrase “Where children whom God loves meet adults who love God.”

Local parents and kids, some as young as 5th grade, helped with rehabilitating its building, and labor unions sent apprentice plumbers, carpenters, and cement masons to lend a hand and gain experience.
