Gymkhana Gymnastics Programs and Camps offers gymnastics, a competitive team program, Infant & Toddler Programs, Children & Teenager Programs, NINJA KHANA, Summer Camps, a Recreational Team, Birthday Parties, and Competitive Programs. The main gym includes traditional men’s and women’s gymnastics apparatus, a giant trampoline, and a tumble track, and there is a separate Infant/Toddler Gym space with a “treehouse,” a loft, several slides, and equipment sized for infant and toddler students. The emphasis in the programs is on F-U-N-damentals.
Gymkhana was opened in 1977 by founders Ed Swerdlow and Elliott Sanft, who were both competitive gymnasts for the University of Pittsburgh. Gymkhana’s original location was in Shadyside, and the business moved to its current Point Breeze facility in The Factory building in 1986, with additional locations opening in Bethel Park in 1983, Monroeville/Plum in 1984, and Wexford in 2010. Gymkhana launched its competitive team program in 1980.
Gymkhana’s Leadership Team includes founders Ed and Elliott and three of their children: Leah, Liza, and Luke. Many current instructors and coaches were Gymkhana students themselves, and many students are second or third generations of Gymkhana families. The coaching staff has led gymnasts to numerous individual and team placements at local, State, Regional, and National competitions.
Gymkhana’s mission statement is to foster the physical, emotional and social development of children through unparalleled gymnastics instruction. Gymkhana provides quality programs designed for children of all ages at four Pittsburgh Area locations. Instructors and coaches at Gymkhana state that they celebrate by portraying unconditional positivity when working with students and colleagues and celebrating individual successes, coach by providing safe, individualized, progressive gymnastic instruction, collaborate by communicating opinions, sharing ideas and listening to others, and connect by treating students, parents and colleagues with generosity and understanding.
