About

Venture Outdoors offers outdoor activities where participants hike, bike, fish, kayak, and take part in other paddling experiences. These activities take place through Venture Outdoors hubs and are led in part by Outdoor Educator Otavio Wilkinson-Baldauf. The organization operates as a 501c3 nonprofit that focuses on environmental education, nature-based learning experiences, outdoor leadership opportunities, and accessible outdoor experiences in the community.

Venture Outdoors states that its mission is to remove barriers and create access to the outdoors for all. The organization notes that it hikes, bikes, fishes, and kayaks on the original territories of many Indigenous groups including the Osage, Susquehannock, Massawomeck, Shawandasse Tula (Shawnee), Kaskaskia, and Erie, and it encourages support of Indigenous groups through the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center, Inc. A testimonial from Membership at Venture Outdoors states, “Venture Outdoors removes barriers to outdoor experiences.” The program lists several features for employees, including free kayaking, really free kayaking, paid training, an end of summer bonus for Kayak Pittsburgh roles, a mental health shut down with a guaranteed break between summer and fall season, a sponsored Simple IRA for employees earning more than $5000 yearly, paid professional development for program roles, a flexible work environment, and being an equal opportunity employer.
