Olivet Boys & Girls Club Youth Programs and Summer Camps include Summer Camp, Summer Theatre Camp, sunny days by the pool, hikes in the outdoors, singing and dancing, museum visits with art and history, and trips to the ballpark. Olivet Boys & Girls Club states that its mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need the organization most, to reach their full potential as healthy, productive, caring, responsible citizens. The organization offers Summer Theatre Camp in addition to Summer Camp and includes programs that address youth issues of education support, after school programming, and mentoring, with three core areas of programming listed as Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship. Blue Mountain Camp, used for summer programs, is described as being on 114 wooded acres bordering the Appalachian Trail and includes a Main Lodge with a deck, a large dining room, a fully equipped kitchen, two conference rooms, Lakeview Cabins, Hillside Cabins, a pavilion, and a bathhouse with hot showers.
Olivet Boys & Girls Club was one of the original 50 organizations that joined with similar youth groups to form what became Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and it is a chartered member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. For most of its history, the club operated two units in two neighborhoods, Clinton Street and Mulberry Street, and during the 1990s it expanded into several new areas of the city. It currently operates seven satellite locations across Reading along with Blue Mountain Camp in Hamburg, PA. The organization was awarded $499,984 to launch the EMPOWER Resilience Initiative.
The listed leadership team includes CEO Rick Perez, COO Nicholas Philippides, Director of Programming Jordan Rodriguez, and multiple site directors and coordinators such as Baba Waples at the Clinton site, Ramses Sanchez at the Pendora site, Christian Singleton at the Oakbrook site, and Brianna Williams at the Center for the Arts. The board leadership includes Board Chair P. Sue Perrotty, Vice-Chair and Secretary Angel Helm, and several committee chairs and board members. One testimonial from Mr. Baba, Site Coordinator at Clinton Street, describes his own experience as a shy eight-year-old “Club Kid” at 677 Clinton Street, remembering an X-Men arcade game, dancing in the gym, playing tag at the Clinton Street Dance Party on Friday nights, spending summers at the pool, and being one of the youngest members allowed in the deep end, and he explains that these experiences guide his current role as a Site Coordinator.
