About

Olivet Boys & Girls Club Summer Camp includes a general summer camp and a summer theatre camp, along with time at the pool. Campers take hikes in the great outdoors, do singing and dancing, visit museums filled with art and history, and go on trips to the ballpark. The camp describes summer there as including sunny days by the pool, outdoor hikes, music and dance, museum visits, ballpark trips, and time for resting, growing, and making memories that last a lifetime.

• Ages: 6–18 years old

Olivet Boys & Girls Club states that its mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as healthy, productive, caring, responsible citizens. The organization was one of the original 50 groups that joined with similar youth organizations across the country to form what became Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and it is a chartered member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Its history notes that for most of the club’s existence it operated two units in two neighborhoods, Clinton Street and Mulberry Street, and that it expanded into several new areas of the city during the 1990s. The club reports that its services target underserved youth from diverse communities within the City of Reading and that it was awarded $499,984 to launch the EMPOWER Resilience Initiative, and it is also mentioned in a partnership where Habitat for Humanity and Olivet Boys & Girls Club broke ground on a Buttonwood Street home.

The leadership team includes Rick Perez (CEO), Nicholas Philippides (COO), Jordan Rodriguez (Director of Programming), Barbara Olesen (Senior Accountant), Kristen Orgera (Development Manager), Sarah Althen (Development Director), Tim Rivera (Operations Associate), Brandy Del Gallego (Director of Life & Workforce Readiness Programs), Jeannie Pimentel (Admin Coordinator/Executive Assistant), Autumn Lawrence (Development Administrator), Emily DiBenedetto (Director of Finance), Noah Rizzo (Grant Manager), Pamela Perez (Programming Associate), Ashley Rank (Blue Mountain Camp Summer Director), Mark Cogland (Blue Mountain Camp Caretaker), Ana Polanco (PAL/Lauers Park Site Coordinator), Jon Marshall (Mulberry/10th & Green Site Coordinator), Baba Waples (Clinton Site Director), Ramses Sanchez (Pendora Site Director), Christian Singleton (Oakbrook Site Director), and Brianna Williams (Center for the Arts Site Coordinator). The organization states that it is committed to keeping registration costs as accessible as possible so that every deserving young person in the community can experience what it describes as life-changing moments.

One testimonial from “Mr. Baba,” identified as a Site Coordinator, describes his experience as a former “Club Kid” at 677 Clinton Street, remembering coming to the club at eight years old, noticing an X-Men arcade game, dancing in the gym, playing tag at the Clinton Street Dance Party on Friday nights, spending summers at the pool, and being one of the youngest members allowed in the deep end. He states that his experiences as a Club Kid guide him in his leadership role, that he can relate directly to the youth served, and that his goal as a Site Coordinator is to create a safe, fun, and welcoming environment where parents feel confident and at peace knowing their child is at Clinton Street Olivet, while serving as a positive role model and building a strong, collaborative team.
