Powdermill Nature Reserve Programs and Camps include time on public trails where participants explore the woodlands and go hiking. The program also includes visits to the nature center, which has exhibits that highlight local wildlife, an indoor stream, and a marsh machine that uses a living greenhouse to purify waste water. Trails are open from dawn to dusk, and bicycles are not allowed on any trails.
• Schedule: Nature Center Summer Hours (June 2 – November 28): Tuesday–Saturday 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Powdermill Nature Reserve Programs and Camps take place at the environmental research center of Carnegie Museum of Natural History, which is a field station and laboratory for long-term studies of natural populations in western Pennsylvania. Powdermill Nature Reserve was established by Carnegie Museum of Natural History in 1956 and has been dedicated to research, education, and conservation for more than 50 years. The site includes more than 2,200 acres of woodlands, streams, fields, and ponds, and is home to the museum’s GIS lab, an avian research center, and one of the longest continually running bird banding stations in the United States. A wide variety of public education programs at Powdermill Nature Reserve serve children and adults.
