Carriage Barn Academy includes activities such as singing and playing guitar with the students, thematic snacks and tasty food experiments, and outdoor discovery and play. Children take part in science activities and use gardening areas where they can plant and harvest. The program also uses spaces such as a dedicated Science Lab, a STEAM Room, a Reggio Atelier art studio, a NEPA Nature Room, The Lookout, a fully-functioning Cooking Corner, an enclosed natural playground, and an outside covered deck with a water table, weather station, seating area, and science activities.

Carriage Barn Academy is a private, academic, early childhood school for children ages 3 to 6 years old, licensed by the PA Dept. of Education. The program embraces the Reggio Emilia Approach alongside Montessori methods and uses a student-centered curriculum that is described as nurturing the whole child and encouraging exploration and discovery. Its STEAM-based curriculum covers Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math through integrated, hands-on learning experiences tailored to each age group and ability, with discovery-based lessons that are student-driven and integrated throughout the curriculum. Special curriculum themes include Mindfulness, Mental Health, and Positive Self-Image.

The leadership team includes Dr. Chris Simrell, Mrs. Leanne Sayre, Ms. Annie Kevra, Mr. Dan Simrell (co-owner of Carriage Barn Academy), and Mrs. Amy Brostoski. Dr. Chris Simrell has over 35 years of experience in early childhood teaching in NEPA schools and has served as Marywood University’s Education Department Chairperson as well as Associate Clinical Professor in the Early Childhood Program. Leanne earned her teaching degree from Marywood University and is a certified early-childhood teacher with multiple years of Montessori experience. Annie has a Bachelor of Science from Temple University and is working toward her Master's degree. Amy is a graduate of Washington Business School and has over 30 years of administrative experience, most recently in education.
