About
Discovery Space Enrichment Programs include STEM learning through experiments, projects, crafts, and design challenges. The programs also offer water play during Water Wednesdays, field trips and group visits, day camps and summer camps, birthday parties, and open shop hours in The Rivet community workshop. Every Saturday, ages 8–14 can use the pottery studio to work on their own projects, and classes at The Rivet teach technical skills, critical thinking, and iterative learning.
• Ages: 0–18 years old
• Schedule: Options include Curiosity Club Afterschool Program Monday–Friday from 3:30–6:00pm, a STEM Day for Middle Schoolers from 9:00am–3:00pm on October 2, seasonal Water Wednesdays starting June 10, and various weekend events such as Maker Faire Happy Valley and The Rivet Winter Market.
• Price: General admission is free for children under 3, $8 for children ages 3–17, and $7 for adults 18 and older; Museums for All admission is $2 per person for families receiving SNAP benefits; the Blue Star Museum program offers free admission to currently serving U.S. military members and up to five family members between Armed Forces Day and Labor Day; the Summer Fun Pass costs $50 and provides unlimited visits June–August.
Discovery Space has operated from 2007 to 2026 and describes itself as a children’s science center and lifelong-learning hub with more than 45 exhibits that encourage play, exploration, and experimentation, including a Marine Life Exhibit with marine invertebrates such as sea stars and hermit crabs, as well as ocean fish. The organization states that it strives to make STEM learning fun and accessible for all. The Rivet, a 5,000 square foot community workshop and makerspace, is the newest branch of Discovery Space and hosts programs such as Spark Internship, Professional Pathways, STEMPOWERED after-school enrichment, and Rivet Youth Workshop hours. Discovery Space participates in the Blue Star Museum program in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense, and in the Museums for All initiative of the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
