Active Learning Centers has been providing care to families in the Lehigh Valley for over 12 years. The program’s mission is to provide a family environment dedicated to fun, learning, and leadership. Staff include licensed teachers and professionals with degrees in fields such as Health and Human Services, Psychology, and Early Childhood Education. The program is Keystone Certified for quality and safety. Active Learning Centers offers childcare from infant through after school care, with children in age-appropriate groups and younger children not folded into groups with much older children. Infant and toddler days include love and attention, and children are kept active and engaged with teacher-led activities and instruction without TVs, video games, or screens in the classrooms. The program uses physical play both indoors and outdoors, and activities include Martial Arts classes whose lessons are carried through all aspects of the child’s life, with a focus on traits like courage, honesty, focus, and respect. Principles and values come from the Martial Arts culture at the root of the organization’s history, and lessons are taught in the classroom as well as on the training mat and reinforced by teachers. The program states that it believes in instilling self-confidence, respect for self and others, and self-discipline through Martial Arts. Teachers nurture each child’s development to promote creativity, stimulate imagination, and encourage independence in a safe and caring atmosphere, and activities are designed to engage children’s minds and bodies and teach them the value of teamwork. The program also states that it respects children’s need for space and independence and helps them appreciate differences in all people. Active Learning Centers describes itself as the Lehigh Valley’s premier childcare destination, covering over a 70 mile radius with five locations around the Lehigh Valley in Bethlehem, Emmaus, Fogelsville, Palmer, and Trexlertown, and notes that the Trexlertown location offers day care that is always age-appropriate and fun. The organization describes its atmosphere as one that fosters learning, leadership, and fun, and notes that it is a family business with owners involved in the day-to-day operations and their children serving as leaders in the company. The staff is described as a balanced team of caretakers with a surprisingly high ratio of male teachers. The program emphasizes that there are no televisions, video games, or screens for children, and that teachers are trained to engage children and provide education and development through play and exploration.
