Its mission states that it is dedicated to enhancing the lives of children from all backgrounds through vocal excellence and celebrated choral music, and that it provides quality music education and artistic excellence through a variety of choral experiences and performances. The mission also states that SHCC enriches the lives of its singers through personal and social growth, promotes a sense of discipline and accomplishment by developing well-rounded musical skill, and centers instruction on healthy vocal technique, musicality, and diverse repertoire from many communities, cultures, and centuries. The mission further states that SHCC instruction supports a foundational and lifelong relationship between the singer and the musical arts.

A quoted testimonial shared by the program is: “With music, one's whole future life is brightened. . .Music is nourishment, a comforting elixir.
