Paint Monkey Summer Art Camp includes open studio painting sessions, step-by-step painting classes, and Summer Art Camp themed weeks. Open studio is a less structured painting session where participants can choose from up to 40 different paintings, and the available paintings are rotated on a regular basis. During open studio, an artist is always there to help, and participants do not all have to paint the same thing, with all canvases pre-sketched.
• Schedule: Open studio hours are listed on the calendar under the “Classes” tab, with open studio offered several times a week; hours are Monday closed, Tuesday–Thursday by appointment only, Friday 12–5 (varies, check calendar), Saturday 12–7pm, and Sunday 11–4pm.
• Price: All seats for Open Studio are $30+tax, and private parties are $40+tax per person.
Owner Mary Lou leads the studio, which is described as Pittsburgh’s premiere paint and sip studio and can hold about 50 people. Private parties are available with a minimum of 10 painters, and a deposit is required to hold the date and time for private events. One parent, Lori L., described a birthday party there as “the best birthday party I ever had for my daughter,” noting that the girls “had a blast” and that “the instructors were awesome.” Another customer, Amanda H., described a birthday party for 26 people and said the owner greeted every person, the painting class was “awesome,” and that “all 26 of us had a blast.” A third customer, Monique P., noted that staff prepared name tags and a table for food and drinks, described the studio as spacious and clean, and highlighted that the owner Mary Lou and instructor Arion were “so much fun and so kind,” and that the drawing is sketched out on the canvas in advance.
