Champions states that it is a safe, healthy place for children to thrive, with safety, security, and health listed as top priorities along with education and development. The program has specific procedures for daily cleaning, hand washing, food service, supervision, and emergency planning, and it provides phone and online support lines for families and ethics concerns.

• Schedule: Customer Care Department is available at 1-888-525-2780 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. (PST), Monday through Friday.
Teachers and staff at Champions undergo extensive training on health and safety practices, including pandemic-response protocols, and they are trained in first aid and CPR. Staff and teachers are trained in child development, early childhood education, or a related field, and criminal background checks are conducted on staff. Only authorized staff and families may enter sites, all sites include smoke detectors and fire extinguishers, and cleaning supplies are locked safely out of children’s reach. Sites are cleaned daily with safe, non-toxic cleaning products, and high-touch items and surfaces are sanitized throughout the day, while staff and students practice frequent hand washing.
Most sites offer breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and menus in sites that provide meal service satisfy applicable federal and state nutrition guidelines. Programs may restrict which food items are served and brought into the site to accommodate children with food allergies. All children must be signed in and out on a paper-based roster and/or computer system, and only pre-approved people with photo identification may pick up a child from the program.
Outdoor play is supervised and conducted only on safe, secure outdoor play spaces available at the school or program location. Staff are regularly trained on safety measures related to field trips or off-site activities, and families must provide permission before a child participates in a field trip or off-site activity. Strict policies exist for administering medication, including requiring a doctor’s note for any medication for any child under the age of 2.
Each site has an emergency evacuation plan that is tested frequently, and an emergency plan and list of procedures are posted in each classroom. A National Support Center has a crisis team that supports each center during and after emergencies, and if a center must temporarily close due to an emergency, the National Support Center works with center management to update families and staff on when the center can re-open. Champions follows local health department guidelines and the guidance of the schools they operate in to take care of students, families, and communities.
