About
Safety Town includes live presentations from fire, rescue, and police departments, along with activities such as safe school bus basics, use of 911, drug abuse prevention, personal health practices, pool safety, pedestrian and rider safety, and BrainMinders presentations. Children watch movies and sing songs that support the safety lessons, ride through the Safety Town streets, sing safety songs, play safe games, color, and take part in other activities built around the safety message of the day.
• Ages: 3–8 years old
• Schedule: Each session runs Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, over two weeks
• Price: The cost is $150 per child, with an early-bird discounted rate of $140 for applications received by March 31, 2026.
Safety Town is coordinated by a certified teacher and assisted by other educational professionals, committed assistants, and dedicated volunteers. Parents or guardians must grant permission for attendance and provide transportation for all participants. The program is described as a first important step in children’s education and an organized solution to preparing children to cope with and understand ever-increasing safety hazards, using hands-on learning and actual participation and demonstration. Its mission states that during the early forming years, it wants children to develop good safety habits and a general safe attitude to guide them in making safe decisions throughout their lives. Safety Town is sponsored by the Rotary Club of York – East, a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian, and non-discriminating civic/service organization for executive, business, and professional leaders, whose mission is to improve the quality of life in communities, develop friendship, and increase the opportunity for service, and whose tagline is “service above self.”
