All Belmont Academy Summer opportunities pair campers with staff from many areas of the theater world. The Belmont Academy is the educational component of The Belmont Theatre and offers classes in a broad range of the performing arts. The Belmont Theatre is currently offering its 94th season of shows and describes itself as York’s prominent community theatre, with a mission of creating an environment of excellence in the theatre arts through diverse performances and innovative educational opportunities. The Belmont Theatre notes that it is a treasured part of the York community and credits volunteers, businesses, and individuals with making it possible to bring live theatre to South Central PA.

The camp leadership team includes Camp Director Sarah Greek and Vocal Director Cody Messersmith. As a homeschool student earning a Performing Arts diploma, Sarah Greek designed an entire high school education around creating and running a new community theater troupe, then apprenticed with working professionals in directing, choreographing, playwriting, and theater design, working with theaters and schools throughout Central PA. She developed and launched educational theater programs for youth of all ages using performance skills, circus arts, vintage film, choreography, and creative writing, and she is a Special Education Paraprofessional in the Red Lion Area School District and Director/Choreographer for their high school musical program. Vocal Director Cody Messersmith is a music educator, performer, conductor, and inclusivity advocate from Pennsylvania, serves as Director of Secondary Choirs for the Spring Grove Area School District, and works as a guest clinician, vocal coach, and educational consultant to performing arts programs throughout Pennsylvania, as well as a freelance low brass musician and vocalist throughout the Northeastern United States. He is pursuing a PhD in Music Education at Temple University, holds a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction and a graduate certification in educational leadership from The Pennsylvania State University, and earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Marywood University in Scranton, PA.

All summer camps include a Belmont Summer Academy camp t-shirt. Campers are responsible for bringing a temperature-controlled lunch each day, as no refrigeration or microwaves are available, and they should also bring plenty of water and be aware of potential food allergies. Testimonials from audience members describe Belmont Theatre productions as “Broadway worthy productions for a very low cost” and “in the same class as Broadway,” as shared on Facebook by Cathy Flinchbaugh Johnson and Travis Bender.
