Swimming Lessons takes place as part of the Oahe Family YMCA programs and includes swimming as a main activity. Participants also have access to related land fitness options such as land fitness classes, Yoga, and Pilates/Yoga/Roll. The broader program environment also offers Half Marathon and Triathlon challenges for interested members.

The Oahe Family YMCA leadership team includes Rachel Williams as Chief Executive Director, Tracy Frost as Member Enhancement Director, Holly Hardy as Aquatics Director, Karla Seyer as Health & Wellness Director, Josh Dutt as Program Director, Jeff Hodges as Building & Grounds Manager, and Lisa Maunu as Youth Development Director. The Oahe Family YMCA was founded in 1971 and has been serving the Pierre/Ft. Pierre area for 45 years. Its stated mission is to serve the Pierre/Ft. Pierre area through programs that provide a positive, safe environment and support the development of the core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring, and it notes that it is dependent on volunteers and donors in order not to turn anyone away for inability to pay for programs. The YMCA is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of local volunteers. Community connections listed include The United Way & The YMCA, Capital Area United Way, Pierre Chamber of Commerce, Pierre Swim Team, and other South Dakota YMCA organizations such as Aberdeen Family YMCA, YMCA of Sioux Falls, YMCA of Rapid City, and the General Convention of Sioux YMCAs. The YMCA also offers 2025 challenges of 100 miles of swimming with tracking at the pool and 100 hours of land fitness classes with tracking in the aerobic room, with a prize for attaining the goal, and both challenges are free to members. Families can join a weekly newsletter list to receive reminders about registration, programs, schedules, and cancellations.
