The SENSE Theatre Intervention Research Program uses theatrical exercises and acting in a structured setting. It is a 10-session peer-mediated, theatre-based program that blends the disciplines of art and science.

SENSE Theatre – A Stage of Hope for Children, Adolescents and Adults with Autism – is described as an intervention research program designed to improve the social and emotional functioning of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The program includes typically developing peer actors who are trained to work with participants with autism while serving as models of social interaction, emotional expression, and imitation in a supportive, enjoyable, community-based treatment program.
SENSE Theatre was founded in January 2009 in Davis, California. The founder and leader is Blythe Corbett, Ph.D., who is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Psychology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. SENSE Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The program has a partnership with ACM Lifting Lives, the philanthropic partner of the Academy of Country Music dedicated to improving lives through the power of music.
