David and Liz Gibson founded Deer Run Camps & Retreats in 1998 as a God-inspired, nonprofit, nondenominational ministry where campers, families, and the faith community could be immersed in the beauty of God’s Creation and could strengthen their relationships with each other and with Christ. Deer Run’s team members are described as being committed to excellence in property care, facilities, recreation, meals, and service, and they state that they strive to serve the Lord and others with love, integrity, stewardship, excellence, community, and fun in everything they do. Deer Run states that two of the ways they do this are by making sure no one is ever turned away from attending camp because of financial hardship and by extending the power of prayer, and scholarships are available. Deer Run makes it a stated priority for camp staff to actively engage each camper and create a fun and safe environment, and every camper, at any swimming level, is required to wear a life jacket at all times for lake activities, with lifeguards present during lake time.

Parents have voted Deer Run’s summer camps the #1 camp for the past 11 years, receiving the Best of Parenting award sponsored by Nashville Parent magazine, and the Overnight Summer Camp has been voted the #1 Overnight Camp Experience by parents. Deer Run has also won the Williamson County Sizzle Award for 9 consecutive years (2012–2016, 2018–2025). One parent, D. Neal, describes that their kids love the place, look forward to a week of camp each year, and experience spiritual renewal and a great deal of fun. Another group leader from Iris Global describes the staff and location as a blessed time together worshipping the Lord, with cafeteria staff described as amazing, well trained, disciplined, friendly, and kind, and the leadership is specifically appreciated. A married couples weekend participant describes that a weekend at Deer Run gave them a chance to escape responsibilities and focus on each other in a beautiful setting.
