About

Zilker Theatre Productions Youth Programs include free audition workshops, pre-show onstage educational opportunities, literacy partnerships, internships, and volunteer opportunities both on and off The Hillside. The program is connected to large-scale musical productions and free admission entertainment at the Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater, which draw audiences from Central Texas and beyond.

• Schedule: Audience members may bring blankets between 6pm–8pm to reserve a spot on the hillside, may use ground chairs on the lawn, and may use high-back chairs only in ADA seating and at the top of the hillside.

Zilker Theatre Productions has produced one of the longest running, award-winning, free outdoor musicals in the country since 1959, with the Zilker Summer Musical established as an Austin tradition since that year. The organization has been dedicated to this work since its inception in 1987 and has made nearly $1 million in improvements to the Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater since 2008. Its mission is “Sustaining the legacy of serving the entire Austin community through the magic of performing while inspiring the artists of today and tomorrow,” and it strives to make the arts accessible and inspire the next generation of artists and audiences. Zilker Theatre Productions provides award-winning, free admission entertainment to an audience of over 45,000 annually, with sponsors funding its productions and events. In partnership with the City of Austin, it works to preserve the Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater and makes high-quality resources such as costume stock, lighting and sound equipment, and warehouse space available to local schools and arts organizations. The organization maintains a policy of no discrimination or sexual harassment with strict adherence to applicable state and federal laws, and its diversity, equity, and inclusion policy is a living document that is reviewed and updated periodically. Attendees may bring a picnic or purchase snacks and drinks from the concessions stand, and ride sharing is encouraged to help reduce traffic at the hillside.
