Camp Lookinback Summer Camp takes place at the John Jay French Museum and is connected with other seasonal activities such as the Easter egg hunt, Pumpkin Walk, Christmas Candlelight tour, and Christmas tours at both museums. The camp is part of a broader set of programs that also includes Heritage Happy Hour, tours for 7th-grade students as a part of the Texas history curriculum, tours to students of all ages as enrichment to Texas history, and general museum services.
• Schedule: Museum hours are Tuesday through Friday with guided tours available at 10 am, 12 pm, and 2 pm, and Saturday with guided tours at 10 am and 12 pm, with no groups larger than 7 on Saturdays; reservations are required for groups of 7 or more and school tours, and group tours must be scheduled Tuesday through Friday.
• Price: Admission for ages 4 and over is $5.00 and free for children 3 years and under; school group tours are $2.00 per student with advanced notice required; tours are $5 for all ages and free for children three and under; guests who display an EBT Snap Benefit Card and a valid ID gain free admission for up to four people.
Camp Lookinback Summer Camp is operated by the Beaumont Heritage Society, which also operates the 1845 John Jay French Museum and the 1907 Chambers House Museum. The Beaumont Heritage Society is a non-profit organized to educate and engage the community through preservation of Beaumont’s history and heritage for a better future together and is a Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The leadership team includes Shelby Brannan, Executive Director; Brintney Van Houten, Site Development Manager; Karli Stansbury, Museum Educator; Jayden Franke, Collections Manager; Melanie Karr, Executive Assistant / Chambers House Docent; Mitchell Pickett, Maintenance and Grounds; and Emma Wood, John Jay French Museum Docent. The organization is involved in preservation and education efforts in Beaumont, including programs such as SPARE Beaumont “Beaumont, USA Our Built Environment,” the Landmark Commission, and preservation efforts related to Munro House, the Dixie Hotel, the Tyrrell Historical Library, two historical houses that were slated for demolition, and the Tyrrell Park Recreation Building.
