About
Children's Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP) offers year-round programs that include Teen & Adult Day Adventure, Parent’s Night Out, Respite Weekends, and Family Weekend Retreats. CAMP programs also include summer camp and monthly school-year programs that use these same activities. Year-round, CAMP adapts all activities so campers can participate fully.
• Ages: 13–18 years old
Since 1979, CAMP has strengthened and inspired individuals with medical conditions or disabilities. CAMP’s mission is to strengthen and inspire individuals with disabilities, and those who care for them, through recreation, respite, and education. Year-round, CAMP provides recreational programs for individuals with medical conditions or disabilities and their siblings, respite for family members, leadership development for high-school students and young adults, and hands-on educational experiences for healthcare professionals. CAMP states that its vision for all programs is that “CAMP is for the Camper.” CAMP describes its environments as places where campers can interact in their own unique way, move around safely, feel more in control, and experience increased self-esteem. CAMP reports that its programs alleviate medical, physical, developmental, social, and intellectual barriers for campers by adapting all activities to allow full participation, and that families are dramatically impacted as they receive respite opportunities that include time to recharge, additional connections, and peer support.
CAMP reports that it takes significant measures to remove financial barriers by offering “camperships” so every family can participate. Volunteer counselors and healthcare volunteers are described as an integral part of how CAMP delivers programs year-round, and CAMP provides extensive training so volunteers of all ages are equipped and supported for their roles. Educating and mentoring staff and volunteers is described as an important part of CAMP’s mission. CAMP states that, regardless of health, disability, race, socioeconomic status, or other labels, all individuals deserve the chance to be in a community where they are celebrated for who they are, and that everyone deserves a place where they belong, have fun, and grow in independence and self-confidence.
