He also served from 2015–2022 as the Camp Director for a Texas A&M affiliated nonprofit organization, Deerfoot Youth Camp. The Assistant Camp Director, Carly Herndon, will be graduating from Texas A&M with her Master’s in Applied Youth Development in May 2026 and has served as the Assistant Director at two different camps in Oklahoma.
Parent feedback about Camp Millican includes reports that campers were excited to go to camp every day, found something new that excited them about being outdoors, made new friends, and enjoyed their camp counselors. One parent described feeling grateful for the opportunity, the kind counselors, and the safety they felt in going to camp every day, and another parent shared that a previously anxious camper felt relieved because of the friendly personalities of the counselors. Camper comments include “HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THIS MUCH GRASS BEFORE!?” and “I made a friend this week,” and one parent stated that both of their boys said Camp Millican was their favorite of three camps they attended that summer.
