JJ Machado DFW offers Kids Jiu Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, including adult no gi classes and gi classes in the adult Jiu Jitsu program. The program is centered around the teachings of Master Jean Jacques Machado, with concepts such as technical superiority, leverage, and timing prioritized over physical attributes. The academy offers world class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instruction for kids and adults of all ages.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
Classes are led by Professor Eric Acha, a second degree black belt directly under Master Jean Jacques Machado, who has been training Jiu Jitsu for 20 years and teaching professionally for 14 years. Professor Acha is a retired California police officer with 22 years of service, and during his police career he was a defensive tactics instructor and a state recognized expert in police use of force. The leadership team also includes Professor Luke Hoffman, a 2nd degree black belt with 17 years of Jiu Jitsu experience and a former MMA fighter with a 2–1 record, and Professor Ernesto Roco, a 2nd degree black belt who began training under Master Jean Jacques Machado in 2006. Youth classes are additionally supported by Coach Mark Sherill, a youth instructor and brown belt, and Coach Francisco Fraga, a youth instructor, retired California police officer, SWAT Operator, K9 Handler, Defensive Tactics Instructor, active Navy Reservist, and purple belt.
The mission at JJ Machado DFW is to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a martial art while reconnecting with traditional martial arts values. The program states that it values respect, kindness, honor, valor, and accountability, and that it aims to create a safe space where mistakes are welcomed and instructors are bound to become mentors.
