The history of Challenger Sports Camps traces back to 1985, when Ron Matsch started All American Indoor Sports and began running summer soccer camps. Challenger Sports was formed in 1997, expanded summer camps to a 10‑month Academy program in 2000, and launched Challenger Teamwear in 2002. The organization ran its first tournaments in Kansas City and its first soccer tour of Britain in 2003, grew to over 100,000 campers and 8 tournaments by 2009, and purchased the residential camper business SoccerPlus in 2011. By 2013, Challenger Sports grew to 115,000 summer campers, 12 tournaments, over 200 club trainers, and 500 travelers on international tours, while Challenger Teamwear exceeded $10 million in sales, started to distribute Under Armour, and launched a UK franchise division focusing on TinyTykes and GK Icon. By 2016, the number of regional offices grew to 13, employing over 150 full-time staff and 650 seasonal staff. In 2018, British Soccer Camps were rebranded as International Camps, Challenger Teamwear began to distribute Adidas, and the Study and Play Abroad program was established. In 2019, Challenger Sports began a collaboration with technology company TopYa, and in 2020 Challenger Sports and Teamwear were significantly affected by the Coronavirus. In 2021, both companies began to rebound from COVID‑19 and catered for 35,000 kids. In 2023, Challenger Sports underwent rebranding, with International Soccer Camps becoming Foundational Skills Camps and Creative Skills Camps being added, and the organization formed a partnership with SPIRE Academy and saw Challenger Teamwear partner with an outside group. Challenger Sports notes that 2025 marks the completion of 40 years of running soccer camps.
