YMCA Summer Day Camp is part of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, which has over 135 years of service to the community. The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas is a nonprofit organization serving almost 200,000 people annually through programs, outreach, and events throughout Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Palo Pinto, and Rockwall counties. The camp uses a World of Wonder summer theme and offers both primarily outdoor camps, where campers spend a majority of their time outside, and primarily indoor camps, where campers spend a majority of their time inside, as well as Pre-K Day Camps where kids spend at least 30 minutes engaging in outdoor activities. The program includes Free Safety Around Water Lessons and notes that HSC 141.071 requires youth camp operators to include on the youth camp website a clearly marked link to the Texas Department of State Health Service Youth Camp Program webpage for campers, parents, camp staff, and volunteers to use to report non-compliance with this chapter.
Parent feedback includes comments that the camp is very helpful for working mothers, that children come home tired but happy, and that kids enjoy the camp and the staff. Other testimonials mention that children loved the counselors and often had stories to tell, and that YMCA support, including scholarships and health-related guidance, made challenging times feel a little bit easier and helped identify a blood pressure issue that led to a change in medication.
