Contemporary Ballet Dallas opened its doors in 2005 and relocated to Mockingbird Lane at the end of 2012, beginning its 19th season. The school has five studios equipped with Marley and sprung-wood floors, and all teaching methods are geared towards injury-free training. The mission statement emphasizes exceptional professional training in a positive environment for children and adults from 18 months and up, from totally beginner to advanced, recreational to pre-professional and professional levels, and states that instructors encourage dancers to broaden artistic horizons and realize creative potential while educating children in the art of dance physically and mentally.
The leadership team includes Lindsay DiGiuseppe Salih as School Director and Owner, who founded, owned, and directed the school and opened it in Lakewood in 2005, and who is a Dallas native trained in RAD ballet technique as a child and teen, receiving highest marks in grades and majors exams through intermediate majors level. Additional leaders include Allison Watson-Festner (Director of Ballet Program, Director, Youth Ballet Company), Keira Leverton (Director of Tap Program, Director, Youth Tap Ensemble), Ranyia Leach (Director, Youth Commercial Company), Danielle Hecker (Director, Youth Concert Company, Admin Supervisor), and Lindsay DiGiuseppe Bowman (Artistic Director, Owner, Business Development Manager).
The program offers performance ensemble companies including Youth Ballet, Tap Ensemble, Concert Company, and Commercial Company, with a selection process by teacher recommendation or audition held at the end of the prior school year, and new students can be evaluated to join. It notes strong and awarded Youth Performance Companies with focused group and individual instruction, and numerous performance opportunities at theaters, festivals, competitions, YAGP, and more. There is an end-of-year recital that usually takes place in May or the beginning of June with typically two shows, and all students in classes 3–4 years Ballet & Tap Combo and up perform in the show.
Contemporary Ballet Dallas states that it continues to support upcoming artists and companies in their endeavors to create art and works, serving as a home for dance companies to work and create their visions. Testimonials describe performances as “Beautiful,” “Charming,” “A splendid evening of music and dance,” and say “The girls were so poised!,” “The dancing brought a sense of magic to the stage,” and that “The students had such integrity, such dignity…IT IS INSPIRING TO SEE THIS IN GIRLS SO YOUNG, VERY UNEXPECTED AND REFRESHING.”
