Steve & Kate’s Camp has been operating since 1980 and has more than 90 locations. The camp’s philosophy states that all year long kids are in rigid structure, and that in summer the camp gives them freedom to expand and evolve by choosing which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long, as a kind of training ground for life where they are empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions. The camp’s approach also emphasizes that parents have flexible, refundable day passes, including the ability to buy any number of days, send their child on any day, drop off and pick up at any time during camp hours, and receive automatic refunds for unused days at summer’s end, with tasty meals and snacks included.

The Mentorship Program at this camp location is intended exclusively for children ages 14–15 for Summer 2026. Mentees help facilitate camp activities, engage with campers, encourage camper connection and participation, and the program utilizes self-directed learning. Mentorship Day Passes receive automatic refunds for unused days at summer’s end, and if fewer than 30 days are used on a Mentorship Summer Pass, the difference from the daily rate is automatically refunded.

Decades-old Steve & Kate’s traditions at camp include Find Chuckie (rubber chicken) and Friday Pie-Day. For slip n slide, campers are asked to bring a labeled swimsuit, towel, and water shoes or sandals to participate. The Winston School, where the camp is held, is ADA-accessible.

Testimonials about Steve & Kate’s Camp include comments from Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, who says that children at the camp blossom and discover a freedom of identity and that kids find their thumbprint there, and he notes his one complaint is wondering where the camp was when he was a kid. Apple’s Hot News states that if kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve & Kate’s Camp. Variety magazine notes that Steve & Kate’s Camp did not set out to cater to the children of people at Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic, but that given the camp’s philosophy, it is not a surprise that many attend. The Washington Post describes Steve & Kate’s Camp as a blend of traditional camp experience with a modern, tech-savvy touch, with a laid-back aura and innovative approaches to programming and payment. The Chicago Tribune states that working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.
