About
Day Camp & Afterschool is part of the YMCA of El Paso, which has been in the community for over 138 years. The program is offered within an organization that engages more than 10,000 neighborhoods across the U.S. and provides programs that support wellness, character and leadership development, education, family services, and other community‑centric activities.
• Schedule: Open Monday–Thursday from 5:00 am to 8:00 pm, Friday from 5:00 am to 7:00 pm, and Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
The YMCA of El Paso states its mission as putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA describes itself as a diverse organization of families joined by a shared commitment to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. It identifies itself as the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose, and each other, and notes that everything it does is in service of building a better community, including nurturing children and teens, improving community health and well-being, and supporting those in need.
Parents and staff have shared experiences such as, “The Y feels like home, a second family,” from a YMCA Gym Monitor, and “I signed up in the summer for the boys, but stayed for my friends,” from a YMCA member. Another YMCA member states, “Swimming at the Y is the only thing that keeps me allive.”
