Sci-Tech Discovery Center, Inc. became a 501(c)3 organization in 2004 after five years as an initiative of the Junior League of Collin County, with preview exhibits in the summers of 2004 and 2005 and various community and school events from 2006–2009, and it opened its doors in Frisco in 2010. Its stated mission is to engage and inspire learners of all ages and backgrounds to embrace discovery and innovation through the active exploration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Sci-Tech serves about 65,000 visitors on-site and off-site each year, including kids in targeted outreach programs in underserved areas, and educators travel to groups around North Texas to deliver TEKS-aligned programs during and after school. Many programs are presented over several weeks, months, or years, and all participants benefit from sponsor and community partner support that keeps admission and program fees low. With partner support, Sci-Tech brings learning programs to kids in North Texas and involves partner employees in sessions that introduce student participants to people working in STEM fields.
