About
Sci-Tech Discovery Center Programs include birthday parties, spring break and summer camps, Derby Workshops in December and January, and Home School Classes during the fall and spring semesters. The programs also include field trips, monthly public programs and a monthly public event, a Homeschool STEAM Lab, FREE Daily Discoveries, summer general admission, and online classes and content that can be accessed through social media. FREE Daily Discoveries are held on weekdays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Maker Studio and are free with admission, and children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Sci-Tech Discovery Center, Inc. became a 501(c)3 organization in 2004 after five years as an initiative of the Junior League of Collin County, and in 2010 Sci-Tech opened its doors in Frisco. The mission of Sci-Tech Discovery Center Programs is to engage and inspire learners of all ages and backgrounds to embrace discovery and innovation through the active exploration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The organization states that “Sci-Tech Means Mind-Stretching Fun®,” lists Mind-Stretching Fun® as a core value, and offers TEKS-aligned programs, including outreach programs in underserved areas. Sci-Tech serves about 65,000 visitors on-site and off-site each year, with educators traveling to groups around North Texas to deliver TEKS-aligned programs during and after school, and many programs are presented over several weeks, months or years to build and reinforce skills and confidence and promote STEM pathways for high school and beyond. Research cited by the organization states that students who envision a career in a STEM field at age 13 are two to three times more likely to earn college degrees in STEM, and that STEM jobs pay up to 40% more than non-STEM jobs.
Sci-Tech notes that all participants benefit from the support of sponsors and community partners that keep admission and program fees low, and that with the support of partners it brings innovative learning to kids in North Texas. The organization works with individuals, companies, and foundations to nurture kids’ curiosity and learning around STEM topics and involves partners’ employees in sessions that introduce student participants to people working in STEM fields. Sci-Tech opened its doors in Frisco with support from the City of Frisco Community Development Corporation, corporate sponsors, foundations, and individuals. The organization also states that by purchasing a ticket, visitors agree to follow museum procedures and release the museum from liability due to misuse of exhibits, and that if tickets are purchased online, visitors must still check in at the front desk to receive wristbands and check in under the purchase name.
