About

Sea Camp & Outreach is a week-long residential adventure where campers take part in hands-on experiences to learn about the ocean, including exploring the wonders of marine and estuarine environments. Campers have access to research vessels, oceanographic equipment, laboratory facilities, and professional staff, and may take part in optional fishing.

• Ages: 10–18 years old
• Schedule: Week-long residential sessions, with camper check-in on Sunday between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm and camper pick-up after Friday night closing ceremonies or on Saturday morning no later than 11:00 am; campers flying in are asked to arrive between 10:00 am and 1:30 pm on Sunday and depart between 9:00 am and 11:30 am on Saturday.
• Price: There is a $10 non refundable registration fee deducted from the total camp balance, a $150 deposit due upon registration, and optional transportation to and from Houston Hobby Airport for $35 each way.

Dorm staff include a resident manager, dorm mom, recreation director, camp assistant, and counselors, and dorm staff are present 24 hours a day. Counselors are K–12 educators, and Sea Camp instructors are experienced undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates from Texas A&M University Galveston Campus. Campers are typically roomed two to a room and four to a suite, and are roomed by program, gender, and age. Laundry is available to campers at no cost if needed, and campers have access to a private beach and fishing dock. Electronics, including cell phones, must be left in the camper’s room during the day, are allowed in dorm rooms at the owner’s responsibility, and a camp phone is available in the dorm office for needed calls home if a cell phone is unavailable. There is zero tolerance for alcohol, drugs, weapons, or tobacco and vapor products.

The packing list for Sea Camp & Outreach includes summer clothes, appropriate swimsuits, a reusable water bottle, sandals or flip-flops, lace-up sneakers for outdoor activities, an old pair of lace-up sneakers that can get dirty, a sweatshirt, bedding or a sleeping bag, towels, toiletries, detergent, an alarm clock, insect repellent, sunscreen, two plain white T-shirts to decorate at camp, and an optional light weight fishing rod and reel for campers interested in optional fishing. Campers may also bring an optional hammock and money for snacks, drinks, souvenirs, and purchases at the Texas A&M Bookstore, with quarters noted as handy for snacks and drinks. Though much of the campus is wireless, students will be very busy and will not have access to internet the majority of camp.

Texas A&M University at Galveston is the island campus of Texas A&M University and is a special-purpose institution of higher education for undergraduate and graduate instruction in marine and maritime studies in science, engineering, and business, and for research and public service related to marine resources.
