Camp Doublecreek is an unplugged, weeklong, completely outdoors day camp where campers take part in camp games, arts and crafts, archery, water activities, sports, and playground time. The program includes activities such as basketball, blooperball, kickball, volleyball, field games, soccer, sing song, high ropes, a rock wall, climbing ropes, swimming, horseback riding, gun safety, gaga ball, time with farm animals, and skits by counselors and campers.
• Ages: 4–14 years old
• Schedule: Weeklong, completely outdoors day camp with weekday phone availability from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Price: Summer Camp: $550/Week; Winter Break: $75/Day.
Camp Doublecreek was founded in 1971 as a family-owned outdoor summer camp and reports 54 years of experience providing a fun and safe environment. The camp maintains a ratio of 10 campers to 1 counselor and offers transportation services to pick up campers from many locations around the Austin area. The program also offers space for birthday parties, reunions, field trips, scout outings, and more, as well as horseback riding lessons for all levels from beginners through advanced riders, and a $15 discount for siblings.
The leadership team includes Dan Neal, Owner/Director; Kim Palk, Director of Parent Relations and Administration; Joe Ray Griffin, Director of Programming and Innovation; Rachel Chuey, Director of Personnel and Marketing; and Monica Budmon, Director of Equine. Staff credentials include Kim Palk with 27+ years of teaching experience, Joe Ray Griffin with 38+ years of experience teaching special education and 50+ years on staff at Doublecreek, and Monica Budmon with 12 years in Pflugerville ISD and 8 years of equine knowledge. The camp’s mission statement is: “Where every camper goes home at the end of the day knowing that someone believes in them.”
Camp Doublecreek has been recognized in Austin Family Magazine's Readers' Poll as Best Day Camp since 1993 and is associated with the American Camp Association and the Camping Association for Mutual Progress. Parent feedback includes comments describing campers being excited to return each day, enjoying activities such as swimming, horseback riding, gun safety, arts and crafts, archery, gaga ball, farm animals, camp songs, and skits, and noting different weekly themes and children coming home tired at the end of the day.
