Kids First Head Start offers activities that include fire safety, drug awareness, and dental health. The program also holds holiday themed programs with student performances, as well as special events such as Dads Day, Moms Day, and Grandparents Day. Families and the community are involved in activities connected with the Galveston County Food Bank.

• Schedule: School hours generally run from 7:30 a.m. to either 2:20 p.m. or 3:00 p.m., with drop-off beginning at 7:00 a.m. and pick-up beginning at either 2:20 p.m. or 3:00 p.m.; extended learning hours are available from 3:00–5:00 p.m.
The mission of Hitchcock I.S.D. “Kids First” Head Start is to provide low–income disadvantaged preschool children and their families with tools that will empower them to develop fulfilling, productive, and satisfying lives. Leadership and support roles include a director, office staff, family service staff, an educational coordinator, a parent involvement coordinator, and a Nurse/Disabilities Coordinator, who is listed as Darlene Blackwell (RN, BSN). Staff maintain activities that keep families and the community connected, hold monthly themed events, and invite parents and the community to be involved in activities held at Kids First Head Start. The program notes that a behavior specialist is available to help teaching staff with challenging behaviors, as referenced in Head Start regulations.
