About
Creative Writing Camp gives students specific writing experiences such as creating maps to newly discovered planets and exploring the natural world through haikus and sonnets. Participants also conduct an interview with the protagonist of their very first novel and have the chance to publish their first poem.
• Ages: 5–17 years old
• Price: 5 day camp at Annunciation Orthodox School: $690 (lunch included); 5 day camp at Holy Spirit Episcopal School: $575; 4 day camp at Rice University: $460; 9 day camp at Rice University: $1,035; Sibling Discount (Two or more) – 5% discount per student
Through Creative Writing Camp, young people discover the power within themselves – to create, innovate, and connect with others. Many of the teachers and writers have Master’s and PhDs in writing and education, and the instructors are described as experts in their field. The program notes a 30 year dedication to educators. In 2025, after one week of Creative Writing Camp, 85 percent of students saw a measurable improvement in their writing, with student writing improving by an average of 76 percent over the course of the week. After camp, students used 85 percent more advanced and varied vocabulary, 88 percent more complex and varied sentences, and 88 percent more figurative language in their writing. Creative Writing Camp is described as the only place where children learn from talented educators and writers. The Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies connects Rice University to Houston and the world, offering educational opportunities.
