Mad Science of Houston offers hands-on science experiences that include chemistry, forensic science, rocketry and aerodynamics, and advanced robotics. Mad Science of Houston is part of Mad Science, which was founded in 1985 in Montreal, Canada by Ariel Shlien and Ron Shlien. Mad Science is described as a leading science enrichment provider that delivers unique, hands-on science experiences for children through after-school programs, birthday parties, workshops, special events, and summer camps. The Houston program partners with NASA, LEGO, and local colleges such as the University of Houston and Lone Star College to make a lasting STEM impact in the community. Birthday parties include high energy, interactive shows that can come to families or be held at the Kids Lab, and children at these parties make and take their own stretchy slime. Holiday and summer camps are offered for Summer, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break, and camps combine hands-on learning with nonstop fun as kids explore topics through interactive experiments, creative engineering projects, and technology discoveries that bring STEM to life. After school classes are hands-on and filled with group experiments, and after school programs use the OHEC method to make science relatable and easy to understand. Shows and assemblies include experiments such as dry ice storms, the Mad Science hovercraft, and Genie from a bottle. Science stations allow children to rotate between different stations with hands-on experiments or demonstrations and include a take-home related to the topic. STEM workshops offer over 60 different topics to choose from, and preschool workshops are designed to encourage questions and introduce the basics of science in a relatable way. Mad Science of Houston has served Houston area schools, daycares, churches, community centers, and YMCA's year round, and its programs use an inquiry-based science curriculum, hands-on experiments, and interactive instructors.
