The STEM IN THE WILD exhibit presents specimens that expired naturally in zoos and sanctuaries and are used solely for educational purposes, with a stated goal of promoting conservation through understanding, and it is scheduled to run through the end of the year. The program’s mission is to give all kids the confidence, tools, and support to reach their full potential as a skilled member of a future 21st-century STEM workforce. Science Mill STEM Programs are part of an organization recognized as an IRS Sec 501(c)(3) and described as a destination attraction and STEM learning leader in central and south Texas. The Science Mill also brings hands-on, science- and technology-focused programs to Texas communities with the greatest need, offering experiences for students and local teachers. The history of the site includes its original construction as a steam grist mill and cotton gin in 1880, conversion to a flour mill in 1901, evolution into a feed mill in the 1930s, closure in the 1980s, purchase by the Science Mill in fall 2012, and public opening on February 14, 2015.
