About

College for Kids offers a range of classes that include Art & Craft, LEGO Engineering and Battle Bots, a Science Explorers class, Black Rocket coding classes, a Theatre class, Language Exploration in American Sign Language (ASL) and Spanish, and a Jr. Fire Academy class. In the Jr. Fire Academy class, children participate in activities with the Killeen Fire Department (KFD) that include exploring tools, learning safety, and putting out fires.

• Schedule: Continuing Education Summer Hours: Monday - Thursday 7:30AM - 5:30PM

Families are asked to complete a signed waiver for each child, available at the Continuing Education front office and on the first day of class at drop-off. A parent or guardian is expected to accompany the child to the classroom each day, not leave the child if the aide or teacher is not present, and be on time for both drop-off and pick-up, as Continuing Education cannot provide childcare or supervision between multiple classes in one day. Each day, the adult dropping off and picking up the child is required to sign the child in and out, and the office must be notified if someone else will pick up the child, since children are not permitted to walk across campus. Families are instructed to pack a lunch or snack if a class is more than two hours long, because Continuing Education does not provide snacks or lunches, and they are also asked not to park in spaces marked “reserved” or “official business” anywhere on campus. The program’s mission states that it offers a variety of fun and educational classes designed to inspire and engage young learners, with diverse opportunities for children to explore their interests, develop new skills, and make lasting friendships. Art classes focus on creativity and self-expression using different techniques and mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpting, and mixed media; LEGO Engineering and Battle Bots classes teach basics of engineering and design through hands-on building projects; Science Explorers includes experiments and topics about scientific principles and the natural world; Black Rocket coding classes introduce programming to create games and apps; Theatre class includes acting, singing, and dancing while students work on a short production; and Language Exploration in ASL and Spanish focuses on communication skills and understanding cultures.

College for Kids partners with the Killeen Fire Department for the Jr. Fire Academy class. Every year, the program hosts a College For Kids Preview Day and Car Show within April–May, which is open to the community and allows families to see the upcoming summer schedule and speak with staff. Registration is stated as open for Summer 2026, and classes can be browsed through the Continuing Education Catalog or the upcoming Classes by Course.
