About
Austin Educational Theatre After School Program offers theatre class, dance class, acting, voice, dancing, art classes, and project-based learning focused on art and the performing arts. Students take part in dramatic theatre, musical theatre, voice training, dance classes, and acro, and they work with printed scripts to learn songs and lines and practice using a microphone. The program includes fully staged children’s theatre productions, dance recitals, musicals, and dramatic plays, and is part of an After School Program for students in Pre-K through 8th grade where every student plays a part, receives training, and gets to perform on stage.

The program offers after-school transportation at many local elementary and middle schools, including after school van pick-up from listed elementary and middle schools, and Valor South Austin (both locations) pickup includes early release Fridays. Additional related options at Austin Educational Theatre include a Parent’s Day Out Program for ages 4–5, a Parent’s Day Out program providing care and education using project-based learning, and a Pre-Professional Theatre Program for grades 5–12 that is audition-only and offers preparational guidance for college theatre applications. Spring productions have included Moana Jr. and Charlotte’s Web, and the organization lists professional productions and summer camps among its offerings.
One student testimonial describes being at AET for 8 years, including 3 years in the pre-professional program, and mentions learning about theater as well as learning from mistakes and having chances to “level up” as a performer. A parent testimonial notes 8 years of involvement with both daughters, multiple productions, and travel to nationals in Florida. A grandparent testimonial describes a granddaughter who has received voice training, dance classes, and acro, learned to project and use a microphone, read songs and lines from printed scripts, formed long-term friendships, traveled with the theater group to Disney World for Nationals, and seen touring professional productions such as Aladdin and Cinderella. Another parent testimonial describes a child who started at age 8, was consistently in productions, and experienced changes related to social anxiety and self-confidence, and a student testimonial mentions musicals, dramatic plays, summer camps, and staff who are described as nice and talented.
