About

Camp Fern Legacy is a youth camp program that operates under the mission statement “GOD FIRST, OTHERS SECOND, I AM THIRD.” The program is licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services Youth Camp Program.

Camp Fern Legacy holds a license from the Texas Department of State Health Services Youth Camp Program. Counselor roles at Camp Fern Legacy focus on promoting self-confidence, developing character, creating independence, and fostering lasting friendships. Staff members who are interested may have access to possible internships across a wide variety of study, and all internships are paid counselor positions. Depending on a staff member’s area of expertise, the camp may help them get additional certifications and training opportunities such as lifeguard, water safety instructor, ropes course or challenge course instructor, or other specialized certifications. The program also emphasizes networking benefits from the Camp Fern Legacy community for advice and job connections.

Former camper, counselor, and director Jack Resneck, Jr, MD, President of the American Medical Association and Professor and Vice-Chair of Dermatology at UCSF School of Medicine, states that Camp Fern left him with happy memories and great friendships and that he learned leadership skills there that he has used throughout his life. Parent Cammie Dennison Reinsborough of Dallas, Texas, states that Camp Fern helped raise her children and that they learned to be independent humans capable of making decisions and having confidence in their abilities, and she reports that her kids refer to their best self growing up as who they were at Camp Fern. Former camper and counselor Matthew Willis states that as a shy and quiet kid, his counselors at Camp Fern encouraged him to be outgoing and confident, that his love of nature was fostered there and continued into his counselor years, and that the communication, compassion, and confidence he learned at Camp Fern made a difference in his pursuit of the medical field.
