Plano Sports Authority was founded in December 1970 as a non-profit organization uniting local sports leagues to provide organized youth sports programs in North Texas. It provides year-round recreational and competitive sports opportunities for over 100,000 youth in North Texas and serves over 100,000 athletes annually through PSA McKinney. The organization’s mission states that it aims to provide quality year-round recreational and competitive youth sports leagues to over 100,000 youth across North Texas and that it believes sports help develop character, teamwork, and sportsmanship, with a goal of offering every young athlete the opportunity to participate, grow, and succeed in a positive and inclusive environment.

Plano Sports Authority offers programs for all skill levels, including recreational leagues and advanced select teams. Basketball programs include year-round activities for over 33,000 players on 38 courts. Soccer runs year-round for more than 500 teams with recreational, competitive, and skills training options, and PSA operates what it identifies as Texas’s largest nonprofit youth volleyball program with Core and Competitive leagues each season. Baseball is offered at recreational and advanced levels for players ages 3 through 18, and recreational softball leagues are available for girls in grades K–12. Flag and tackle football programs run year-round for more than 4,000 players across multiple Metroplex locations, and cheerleading supports outdoor football and indoor flag teams, with registration beginning in late May through summer. PSA’s 7v7 Football is a fast-paced, non-contact version of American football focusing on passing, route running, and coverage skills, played with 7 players per side on a smaller field, typically without pads, and emphasizing speed and precision over tackling.

PSA McSweeney offers jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, wrestling, and Adult Yoga & Performance as a combined martial arts and adult fitness program. The Track Club, as part of TAAF, offers training, competition, and fun for athletes of all levels. PSA Dance Team focuses on dance skills and performs in Plano, McKinney, and Murphy. PSA provides 6 indoor pickleball courts with open play 7 days a week, a Saturday challenge court, and court rental options. Year-round programs for adults of all ages include basketball, soccer, and flag football.

Plano Sports Authority awards scholarships using a sliding scale based on a family’s financial need, size, and annual income. PSA sponsors support youth sports and community development by providing resources and scholarships and gain visibility through PSA programs, events, and facility improvements, contributing to local youth engagement and brand presence. The organization states that it leads youth sports by growing leagues, camps, and training while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and community involvement.
