Monahans Kids Zone (MKZ) is a nonprofit afterschool and summer program where kids take part in tutoring, mentoring, homework help, arts, sports, and games. The program also offers the EDSOMA reading program and Code Ninjas computer coding classes, along with access to the Lobo Learning Center’s tutoring, homework support, and computer lab.

Monahans Kids Zone, a program of Ward County Greater Works, has served kids in 1st–6th grade since 2007 and is expanding to serve students through 12th grade. Its mission states that it is a safe, supportive space where kids learn, grow, and belong, with programs that focus on the whole child through healthy snacks and meals, academic support, technology access, creativity, and community connection. In partnership with the West Texas Food Bank, MKZ provides daily meals and snacks, and for many students this may be their only food outside of school. MKZ is building a brand-new, 18,000 square foot youth activity center, described as a vibrant, multi-use youth center that will serve 300+ students annually from 1st through 12th grade, expand programs, increase access, and host events for the community.
