About

The Little Gym offers activities that include gymnastics, dance, tumbling, balancing, and climbing. The program also hosts summer camps, kids birthday parties, and a Parent Survival Night.

• Ages: 4 months–12 years old

The Little Gym was founded by Robin Wes, who opened the first location in 1976 in Bellevue, Washington. Over forty-five years later, children attend The Little Gym at more than 300 locations worldwide. According to its mission statement, The Little Gym offers gymnastics programs for children ages 4 months to 12 years and their parents that focus on movement-based learning and imaginative play in gyms described as safe spaces for children and parents to explore gymnastics and more. The mission statement also notes that children build confidence and skills needed at each stage of childhood, parents experience a supportive and positive community, and that “everyone has serious fun.”

The Little Gym describes its approach as Kid’s Gymnastics from 4 months to 12 years old, using a Three Dimensional Learning philosophy that includes “Get Moving,” “Citizen Kid,” and “Brain Boost.” “Get Moving” focuses on developing motor skills, strength, balance, flexibility, agility, and coordination through gymnastics. “Citizen Kid” focuses on sharing, teamwork, cooperation, and leadership. “Brain Boost” focuses on creativity, imagination, concentration, and decision-making. The program states that it has a positive, non-competitive spirit and that its programs are designed to get kids moving, boost their brainpower, and improve social and emotional learning. Parent Survival Night is described as an event that gives parents a break.

Through its Big Hearts philanthropic and sustainability program, The Little Gym states that it is dedicated to improving the lives of children around the world and in local communities, looking for simple and effective ways to positively impact communities so that children today and in the future have a safe and healthy place to live and grow.

Parent testimonials describe experiences such as a birthday party where “kids ages 1 to 10 all had the BEST time” and staff “handled literally everything seamlessly,” with the parent stating they “will book more birthdays here in the future” and “10/10 recommend.” Another parent notes that a child “loved it so much we enrolled him for more classes.” A third parent reports that their children “love TLG in Gaithersburg,” describes the teachers as “competent, nice, who love children,” says the classes are “well structured in different age groups,” and states that their children’s agility and strength “have definitely improved” and that they “can highly recommend this gym.”
