Camp Summit offers traditional camp activities such as archery, swimming, a ropes course, arts & crafts, and sports & games. These activities are adapted to each individual and provided in barrier-free facilities on a campground that is 100% barrier-free. Campers are grouped by age, and campers may be physically challenged, developmentally delayed, dual-sensory impaired, or have multiple disabilities, and are welcomed regardless of the severity of their disabilities as long as medical needs can be met.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Price: The fee for each camper to attend camp is $2,300, but the cost to the camper is based on household income. The less a household earns, the less it pays. Camperships (scholarships for campers) are offered to help keep cost as low as possible. Over 90% of campers receive financial assistance. Camp Summit never turns away a camper due to an inability to pay the full fee.
Camp Summit has been providing barrier-free outdoor experiences and a residential camping experience for children and adults with disabilities since 1947. The camp serves ages 6–99, with no upper age limit. Camp Summit is a one-of-a-kind camp for individuals with disabilities, with an emphasis on each camper’s abilities rather than their disabilities. Activities are implemented by trained, caring staff, and there is on-site medical staff and updated nursing facilities. Camp Summit is accredited by the American Camp Association and is licensed as a Youth Camp in the State of Texas. The organization’s leadership includes a Chief Executive Officer, Carla. Camp Summit relies on the generosity of friends in the community, including financial gifts, shopping for the cause, volunteering, and group volunteer projects, and participates in North Texas Giving Day, an annual online giving event that provides millions to local nonprofits like Camp Summit every year.
