Armand Bayou Nature Center EcoEducation & Kids EcoPrograms is part of a nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The mission of Armand Bayou Nature Center is to preserve the habitats with which it has been entrusted and to provide opportunities for people to experience and understand the local ecosystem, with the stated goal to “Reconnect People with Nature.” The organization dates its history from 1974–2025 and is described as one of the largest urban wilderness preserves in the United States, containing 4,000 acres of natural wetlands forest, prairie, and marsh habitats and home to over 370 species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. It offers 5 miles of well maintained walking trails, including a discovery loop boardwalk and a bison viewing platform, as well as a historic farm, hiking trails, exhibits, field trips, Scout programs, and birding.

Armand Bayou Nature Center is the neighbor of NASA/Johnson Space Center, University of Houston Clear Lake and the Lunar Planetary Institute, and the Bayport Industrial complex, and is surrounded by significant residential development. The organization relies on volunteers and donors and lists membership, donations, corporate partnerships, volunteering, Kroger Community Rewards, and planned giving as ways to support its work. For safety, pets are not allowed at the nature center, and self-guided group sizes are limited to 15 guests, with larger groups asked to schedule a guided field trip or private tour.
