Founded in December 1970 as a non-profit organization, Plano Sports Authority Youth Sports Programs has expanded over time to include multiple centers and a broad mix of sports. Its mission is to provide quality year-round recreational and competitive youth sports leagues to over 100,000 youth across North Texas. The mission statement emphasizes character, teamwork, and sportsmanship, and states a goal of offering every young athlete the opportunity to participate, grow, and succeed in a positive and inclusive environment. PSA offers programs that welcome all skill levels, including recreational leagues and advanced select teams.
The program includes large-scale basketball offerings with over 33,000 players, more than 38 courts, and year-round activities. Soccer runs year-round for more than 500 teams and includes recreational, competitive, and skills training options. PSA operates what it describes as Texas’s largest nonprofit youth volleyball program, with Core and Competitive leagues each season. Baseball is offered at recreational and advanced levels for players ages 3 through 18, and recreational softball leagues are available for girls in grades K–12, welcoming players of all skill levels. Year-round flag and tackle football programs serve more than 4,000 players across multiple Metroplex locations, and cheerleading supports outdoor football and indoor flag teams, with registration typically starting in late May through summer. The 7v7 football program is a fast-paced, non-contact version of American football that focuses on skill positions, passing, route running, and coverage skills, is played with 7 players per side on a smaller field, typically without pads, and emphasizes speed and precision over tackling.
PSA McSweeney offers jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, wrestling, and adult yoga and performance. The Track Club is part of TAAF and offers training, competition, and fun for athletes of all levels. PSA Dance Team focuses on dance skills and performs in Plano, McKinney, and Murphy. PSA also offers six indoor pickleball courts with open play seven days a week, a Saturday challenge court, and court rental options. In addition to youth programs, PSA offers year-round programs for adults of all ages to compete and have fun, including basketball, soccer, and flag football. Across its programs, PSA features over 38 basketball and volleyball courts and four indoor turf arenas.
Plano Sports Authority awards scholarships based on a family’s financial need, size, and annual income, using a sliding scale. Family income for scholarships is calculated by including all individuals in the household, such as step-parents, grandparents, and any adults living in the home. PSA sponsors support youth sports and community development by providing resources and scholarships, and they gain visibility through PSA programs, events, and improved facilities, contributing to local youth engagement and positive brand presence.
